KYLA WILLIAMS

Kyla is an experienced family law practitioner, having worked exclusively in family law since her admission to practice in 2006. She has experience in all aspects of family law, including: 

 

  • Property settlement – including complex matters, high-value and modest asset pools, farming matters, matters involving third parties, employer-provided home ownership schemes, s79A applications (both on an interim and final basis) and superannuation splitting orders (including in relation to Defence Force Retirement and Death Benefits (“DFRDB”) accounts); 

 

  • Children’s arrangements – including intrastate, interstate and international relocation, abduction, parental responsibility, and matters involving complex/significant risk factors (including parental alienation, differing religious beliefs, abuse and family violence (including emotional abuse), alcohol/substance abuse, mental health issues etc), surrogacy and adoption;  

 

  • Spousal maintenance – both interim and final, including in relation to legal fees; 

 

  • Child support – including binding child support agreements; 

 

  • Binding financial agreements (“pre-nups”) – including before, during and after a marriage/de facto relationship;  

 

  • Divorce; and 

 

  • Restraining orders. 

 

Kyla is a nationally accredited Mediator and a member of the Australian Institute of Family Law Mediators and Arbitrators. She is also a nationally accredited Independent Children’s Lawyer and is regularly appointed to represent the children’s best interests in complex court proceedings. 

Early in her career, Kyla was awarded a place in Oxfam Australia’s Leadership Development Program and has spoken at a number of seminars and conferences regarding both legal issues and leadership development. In addition to this, Kyla has been an active member of a several not-for-profit boards and committees, and has regularly volunteered at a local community legal centre.

 

In 2022, Kyla was elected as a Member of the Women Lawyers of Western Australia committee. The WLWA aims to understand and support the legal rights of women, to achieve equality for women in the law, and to eradicate discrimination against women in the legal system and broader community.   

 

Outside of her role in the law, Kyla has a strong interest in photography and enjoys immersing herself in a variety of creative/artistic activities. She has three young children and enjoys spending time with family and friends.
